Institution-Based Trainings and Activities
The Provincial Training Center–Zamboanga Sibugay successfully conducted a comprehensive 4-day competency assessment for Masonry National Certificate (NC) I and NC II candidates on November 14–17, bringing together aspiring masons from across the province to evaluate their skills and readiness for industry-level work. The activity formed part of TESDA’s continuing commitment to raising the quality of skilled Filipino workers and ensuring that construction sector competencies meet national and global standards.
The assessment covered both Masonry NC I and Masonry NC II qualifications, each designed to measure the practical abilities, theoretical understanding, and workplace habits of candidates. Over the course of four days, participants underwent a series of rigorous evaluation activities that simulated real-world construction scenarios. These included hands-on tasks involving preparation of construction materials, basic masonry layout, installation of concrete hollow blocks (CHB), plastering works, and ensuring accurate horizontal and vertical alignment—core competencies essential to the trade.
Under Masonry NC I, candidates were assessed on fundamental skills such as preparing tools and materials, performing basic masonry tasks, and observing occupational health and safety standards. This level focused on ensuring that trainees possess foundational knowledge and can confidently assist in masonry projects. Meanwhile, the Masonry NC II assessment evaluated a more advanced set of competencies, including finishing masonry surfaces, constructing partition walls, performing basic repair work, and executing more precise measurements and alignments required in higher-level masonry work.
The assessment was facilitated by TESDA-accredited assessors who ensured that competency demonstration adhered strictly to the standard assessment tools (SAT) and national competency standards. Their guidance and impartial evaluation helped create an environment that was both challenging and supportive, allowing candidates to fully demonstrate their technical proficiency.
Participants expressed appreciation for the well-organized conduct of the assessment, highlighting the relevance of the tasks in preparing them for employment opportunities in both local and international construction markets. Many candidates noted that the assessment not only tested their skills but also boosted their confidence and readiness for real job-site conditions.
The success of the activity also underscored PTC–Zamboanga Sibugay’s ongoing efforts to deliver quality skills development and certification services in the province. By hosting competency assessments regularly, the institution contributes significantly to workforce development, helping ensure that the construction industry has access to competent, certified, and job-ready workers.
As industries continue to expand and demand for skilled labor rises, certified masons play a critical role in nation-building—literally laying the foundation for infrastructure growth. The 4-day assessment reaffirmed TESDA and PTC–Zamboanga Sibugay’s shared mission of empowering individuals through skills certification and providing pathways for gainful employment.
PTC–Zamboanga Sibugay extends its congratulations to all candidates who took part in the Masonry NC I and NC II assessments and remains committed to supporting more Zamboangueños in achieving their technical-vocational aspirations.
